Salt-fired Brush Stroke Jug
I had some fun with this series of jugs. After a visit to the Clark museum up in Williamstown, MA I had Impressionism impressing itself onto my psyche. These jugs emerged the next day. Using multiple colored slips in a thick and slightly abstract way I used the pot as a canvas and made impressionistic vessels.
I chose this chocolatey brown stoneware clay because of its traditional feeling when fired in the salt-kiln. The light orange peel texture is reminiscent of albany slipwares.
Fired in the salt kiln at Stonepool Pottery in the Spring firing of this year, 2023.
