November 2017 I packed up my bisqueware and hit the road bound for the sweet little town of Huntingdon, PA to fire a kiln with one of my biggest clay heroes, Mr. Jack Troy. Jack is an author, poet, artist, teacher, and much more. His book, Wood-fired Stoneware and Porcelain, deepened my love and appreciation for the art of making woodfired pottery. It was an incredible honor to work alongside Jack and his incredible crew of humans at this firing. Life-long friendships were forged, and we were blessed with some fantastic results.
I first met Jack in March of 2017 during a firing of the Santatsugama in Seabeck, WA. After the firing, he purchased a beautiful salmon sculpture from the kiln's owner, Ken Lundemo, and rather than him pay to have it shipped home to PA, I offered to deliver it to him since I knew I'd be moving out to the midwest in the near future. A mere 8 months later, we are posing under the sculpture as it proudly hangs in its new home. I love this photo.
I hope you enjoy the pictures. If you'd like to read a little story about an adventure that Jack and I went on during this week, check out this blog post -----> An Amish Adventure with Jack.
